Our History

1972

Thistle Generators was formed, supplying and installing diesel generator sets across the UK.  Growing annually to a turnover of circa £7m, trading at this level continued until 2010.

1992

Became a fully authorised FG Wilson dealer.

2004

Dieselec Generators was formed, and the company grew significantly year on year. Dieselec secured an investment deal with Nevis Capital LLP which would be instrumental in the company future.

2010/2011

The acquisition of Thistle Generators in December 2010 was followed by the move to our new 6.3 acre HQ in Milngavie, Glasgow, where we consolidated the activities of Dieselec and Thistle, and rebranded as Dieselec Thistle Generators.

2012

The new business continued to grow rapidly now turning over £12m with 60 staff. This was recognised by The Sunday Times as the 56th fastest-growing private company in the UK. Our continued, consistent growth has been achieved as a direct result of high levels of customer service and this remains the core objective of the business.

We continue to develop our HQ facility and upgraded our stock warehouse to 80,000 sq ft.  At this time we also invested more than £1 million in a bespoke test cell and stock warehouse, giving us the capability to test 7.5 MVA of generator sets simultaneously and to hold significant stock levels.

2013

Our managing director, Paul Moore won the PWC Entrepreneur of the year award and DTG was a winner at the Scottish SME awards.

2017

Now the leading generator specialist in the country, we continue to grow from strength to strength.  Employing 60 people including 10 HV certified engineers, and holding more than £1 million of generator stock. Consistently ranked in Scottish Business Insider's SME 300 list.

2019

Rebranded as DTGen to reflect the future direction of the business.

Opened our Birmingham office, a new training facility at our Glasgow HQ and launched a range of gas-fuelled generators.

2021

David Oates was appointed as managing director. Rugby office opens.

2022

We acquired the sales and projects division of Power Electrics Generators - bringing two of the UK’s most established generator specialists together to create one of the largest dedicated generator companies in the UK with a turnover of in excess of £30m and more than 100 employees across the three locations.
