Future proofing power at Ninewells

We have been appointed to design, supply and install the new standby power system for NHS Tayside’s Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Four prime-rated 1 MVA generators will provide backup power to the hospital’s HV network. Each set will be installed in its own dedicated plant room within the energy centre. Our package includes sound attenuation and ventilation, bulk fuel system and fuel transfer, exhaust extensions and after treatment to ensure cleaner emissions. In addition, a Comap control system will also be provided by DTGen to facilitate parallel operation with the utility supply for all four sets.

The project comes as part of an urgent upgrade to the hospital’s electricity supply after a power cut earlier in the year exposed aging infrastructure.

The new system will be installed and fully operational in early 2020.

We have an extensive track record of delivering mission-critical power in the health sector, supporting some of the UK’s largest health infrastructure developments in recent years, including more than 30 major NHS hospitals such as the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh, Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington and the new £64m health care facility in Orkney, as well as numerous other installations throughout the financial, transport and retail sectors.
