The Zig Zag building and King's Gate

Designed by Patrick Lynch, Land Securities’ new Zig Zag and Kings Gate buildings replace the former Kingsgate House on London’s Victoria Street.

About the project:

Designed by Patrick Lynch, Land Securities’ new Zig Zag and Kings Gate buildings replace the former Kingsgate House on London’s Victoria Street. The two 12-storey buildings provide shops and restaurants on the ground and mezzanine floors, along with 190,000 sq ft of stunning commercial office space (exclusively let by Deutsche Bank), thoroughfares, gardens and a sophisticated public art strategy.

Power supplied:

We supplied two 800KVA generator sets for life safety in the East and West wings, along with two high voltage 1825kva gen sets for the landlord’s systems, complete with hot stand-by PLC control system for high voltage network and main switchboard.

Application:

Installed in sub basement level two – one level above the London underground – the two 16.5t generators were transported in small components and entirely re-built in the basement, with N plus 1 street-level forced air for cooling. The sets provide the main back-up power supply for every floor of the entire complex.

Why DTGen:

We have a strong, proven track record in delivering complex systems in the retail and commercial office sectors, and have a long standing relationship with Land Securities.

Kenny Berrie, Technical Manager at DTGen, said: “This was a fantastic project to be involved with. Despite being a technically and logistically challenging installation, it really showcases our ability to work with major blue-chip clients
