HV network backup for Sheffield University

We have been selected to deliver backup power to the HV network at Sheffield University.

The 3 MVA containerised generator will be installed in the university’s energy centre along with extended inlet and outlet ducts, a forced ventilation system, bespoke exhaust system which has been specially designed to fit within the restricted space available in the plant room and a remote cooling system which includes an attenuated dry air cooler on the roof of the energy centre.

In addition to the complex installation, we are also undertaking the design, supply, installation and testing of a master power control system. This system will control the University’s entire HV network which includes five high voltage switchboards.

John Kinstrie, Head of Power Solutions at DTGen, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver this project. Our customer is one which we have worked with many times in the past and we are delighted that they have appointed us and trusted us to deliver such a unique and complex project. Work is already well underway and it’s a great opportunity to put our experience to the test as we overcome the challenges with the technical design and access restrictions on site.”

Sheffield is a research university with a global reputation for excellence offering degree courses in a wide range of areas from biochemistry and genetics to aerospace and civil engineering.
